Fornieri Cocò Academy of Fine Arts of Catania

Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura is participating in a collaboration withthe Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, initiated by the Academy itself and developed within the Accessory and Jewelry Design course, coordinated by Professor Laura Mercurio and supported by the Administration, led by Gianni Latino, who recognized the project as a significant opportunity for dialogue between education and the professional world.
The Academy has identified Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura as Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura partner capable of offering students a concrete point of reference within the contemporary jewelry landscape. For the brand, being chosen as a source of inspiration and reference for young designers represents a significant recognition, as does the esteem expressed by Professor Laura Mercurio toward the company’s journey and identity.

The project aims to foster a meaningful dialogue between education and the professional world, linking students’ design research with the artisanal expertise and vision of Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura continues with the goal of guiding these ideas toward full realization, ensuring consistency between concept, form, and material.
The collaboration is designed as an experience of mutual growth, in which the students’ contributions are integrated with the artisanal know-how of Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura, under the careful and expert guidance of Professor Laura Mercurio.
During the sessions, students were guided in developing design proposals inspired by the distinctive values of Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura: attention to materials, formal balance, and a vision of jewelry as an expression of design and nature. The process unfolded through phases of analysis, ideation, and discussion, fostering a structured and coherent design approach.

The five selected projects, chosen based on criteria deemed essential by Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura, were developed, prototyped, and subsequently produced. The creations were then made available on the website and presented to the public at major industry trade shows, including VicenzaOro, Milano Fashion&Jewels, and Open by Il Tarì, offering a concrete opportunity to gauge market response. The project that garners the most interest and is chosen most frequently by customers will be declared the winner.
The award ceremony will take place on June 13 at 7:30 PM at Palazzo Biscari in Catania, during an event organized by Professor Laura Mercurio.
For further updates, we invite you to continue following us on our official channels.
The selected projects are presented here in their final form, the result of the process developed within the collaboration.
Each proposal stands out for a specific design approach: Artemisia interprets the connection between nature and feminine identity; Discontinuità Geometrie Sovrapposte explores the relationship between geometry and the face through a minimalist language; Radura translates the concept of balance and connection with the environment into form; Isomea develops a coherent analysis of the brand’s identity in a contemporary key; Decocònstruction introduces a reflection on transformability and the dynamic use of jewelry.
Below, the projects are presented individually.

Artemisia by Rachele Cantarella

Artemisia emerges from a reflection on the concepts of unspoiled nature, femininity, and self-determination, developed in line with the philosophy of Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura.
The project interprets the distinctive combination of ebony and pearls, ethical raw materials that evoke a direct connection to the earth and become expressive tools of contemporary femininity. The jewelry serves as a defining element, capable of establishing an authentic style and essential elegance, designed to adapt to various occasions.
The name Artemisia evokes the aromatic plant and, at the same time, the figure of Artemis, the Greek mythological goddess associated with nature, the moon, and the protection of women.
This reference reinforces the connection between the natural world and female autonomy, central elements of the project.
The design concept strikes a balance between the environment, personal independence, and understated elegance, expressed through a distinctive formal language.

Discontinuity: Overlapping Geometries by Sarah Sofia

Discontinuity: Overlapping Geometries is an earring designed to enhance the face through a formal presence capable of leaving a distinctive mark. The choice of this element stems from its natural function of framing the features, becoming an integral part of personal expression.
The project begins with an observation of the soft forms of the face, reworked through essential geometric shapes, such as the circle and the oval, which are reinterpreted, reshaped, and interrupted to create a balance between continuity and discontinuity.
The influence of the Bauhaus is reflected in the use of clean lines and essential structures, capable of expressing complexity through simplicity. This formal approach dialogues with the requested concept, translating into a clear and recognizable visual language.
The project thus expresses an idea of discontinuity understood as a synthesis of simplicity, elegance, and a bold, defined, and immediately perceptible beauty.

Radura by Giostra Eleonora

Radura emerges from a reflection on the dimension of silence and the tranquility of nature, translated into an essential and balanced formal language. The project draws inspiration from the sensation of openness and breathing typical of natural spaces, interpreted through a light and measured composition.
The central element consists of two open semi-ellipses that draw closer and connect via a thin silver wire, creating a balance between tension and union. This structure defines a continuous dialogue between the forms, in which each element contributes to the construction of the whole.
The pearls, placed on the sides, take on a structural as well as an aesthetic role, becoming points of stability and reference within the composition. The contrast between the materials reinforces the sense of harmony and formal coherence.
The project takes the form of a light and essential object, capable of expressing an idea of deep connection between the individual and the natural environment.

Isomea by Chiara Scirè

Isomea stems from an in-depth analysis of the identity of Fornieri Cocò Gioielli di Natura, with particular attention to the brand’s core values, including craftsmanship and the conscious choice of natural materials such as ebony and pearls.
The project was developed with the aim of creating a piece of jewelry consistent with the company’s aesthetic, aligned with the target audience, and possessing concrete commercial potential. The research focuses on the balance between linear and elegant geometric forms, resulting in a minimalist yet recognizable design.
The Isomea ring is designed for an independent and self-aware woman, capable of expressing her identity through a measured and distinctive aesthetic. The design process unfolded through a phase of study and progressive development, starting from preliminary sketches through to the final definition, with particular attention to formal construction and details.
The result is a piece of jewelry that synthesizes identity, research, and design, expressing a balance between timeless aesthetics and artisanal excellence.

DECOCÒNSTRUCTION – 1in8 – by Roberta Cassata

Decocònstruction is a ring designed to offer versatility through a formal system that can be reinterpreted over time. The project is based on the idea of dynamic jewelry that can be worn in different ways without needing to be replaced, but rather through a continuous transformation of its configuration.
This approach responds to a contemporary vision focused on reducing waste and enhancing the longevity of objects, fostering a more conscious and lasting relationship between user and product.
The ring is conceived as an evolving element, capable of adapting to the wearer’s needs, generating an active and constant interaction. The possibility of reinterpretation becomes an integral part of the design, transforming the jewelry into an experience as well as an object.
From this perspective, Decocònstruction transcends the role of a mere accessory, taking on a symbolic and personal value linked to its use, the passage of time, and the relationship with the wearer.

The project is brought to life in its final form, presented below.
